Green River Cemetery, Greenfield,
Massachusetts
Historic Survey and National Register Nomination Application for a 22 acre
historic cemetery located in Greenfield, Massachusetts. The cemetery includes
monuments and family plots of some of the area’s most prominent citizens
from 1850-the present. The cemetery also includes exemplary funerary art and
sculpture such as the Russell family monument carved by Daniel Chester French,
one of America’s foremost sculptors.
War Memorial Park Preservation
Plan, West Bridgewater, Massachusetts
The development of a Preservation Plan for one of Massachusetts most historical
parks with the period of significance spanning from 1662 to 1938. The project
includes assessing and evaluating existing conditions, preparing schematics
for park improvements, preservation recommendations for stabilization, safety,
short and long term maintenance and preparing a National Register application.
The project is being undertaken as a joint venture with Walter Cudnohufsky
Associates, of Ashfield, Massachusetts.

Management Cultural Resource Inventory Pilot Update Project
A pilot project to study and inventory cultural resources in five state forests
and parks, one in each of the five regions across the state of Massachusetts.
The project involves assessing the cultural landscape and character defining
qualities of each facility, conducting intensive surveys of the selected properties,
areas and sites and completing a reconnaissance level survey of archaeological
resources within the five DEM forests and parks. Contexts will be identified
for National Register evaluation and National Register criteria will be applied
to all of the resources identified.

Management City and Town Commons
Preservation 2000 Initiative
Preservation planning and landscape architectural services for twenty-six
towns throughout Massachusetts that included, historical overviews condition
assessments, site evaluation, restoration, maintenance and preservation recommendations.
The work is focused on the historic commons, greens, squares and formal parks
of the participating municipalities as part of DEM’s Historic Landscape
Preservation Grant Program. A community charrette was held for most of the
towns and a Citizen Guide to creating and restoring town commons will be produced
at the end of the project. The project is being done in coordination with
Walter Cudnohufsky Associates and eight other independent consultants.
Comprehensive Communitywide Historic Survey,
Maynard, Massachusetts
A comprehensive survey of 185 historic resources in the town of Maynard, Massachusetts.
The survey includes documentation, photography, and research on historic bridges,
dams, canals, buildings (residential, commercial, institutional and industrial)
period neighborhoods and the downtown center. All resources will be formatted
according to the Massachusetts Historical Commission standards.
Lamson & Goodnow Mfg. Co. and the Shelburne Falls Trolley Museum, Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts – 1999
Project Landscape architect and Historic preservationist for the design and redevelopment of a historic mill complex built during the nineteenth century. Located along the Deerfield River in the village of Shelburne Falls, the Lamson and Goodnow Mfg. Co. consists of twelve separate three story brick buildings (903,335sf on 20.74 acres). The project included a market analysis, architectural and structural feasibility study for a mixed use development. In addition, conceptual designs were developed for vehicular and pedestrian circulation improvements, parking and landscape design.
As part of the project a feasibility study of the nearby Shelburne Falls Trolley
Museum was completed. This included a preliminary lay out for a working electric
trolley line, extension of a village park, improved parking and landscaping.
Englands Building, Pittsfield, Massachusetts
1996
Project landscape architect and historic preservationist for the evaluation,
assessment and feasibility study of a historically significant 150,000 s.f.
department store in downtown Pittsfield. The building was constructed from
the early nineteenth to early twentieth century. Evaluation included; a market
study, adaptive re-use potential, conceptual designs, structural and environmental
evaluation and assessing the impact of demolition on the historic integrity
and character of the downtown.
Colle Opera House, Turners Falls, Massachusetts
1996
Preservation consultant for a development feasibility study on a three story
downtown historic structure for adaptive re-use and a certified historic rehabilitation.
An area traffic and circulation study was part of this feasibility project.
Bank Block, Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts
1996
Preservation grant application for the certified rehabilitation of the Bank
Block Building located in the Shelburne Falls Historic District This three
story brick structure built near the end of the nineteenth century is the
home of the Art Bank, offices and several retail establishments.
Cummington Farm; Plainfield, Massachusetts
Preservation consultant for the certified historic rehabilitation and National
Register listing of a 200-acre gentleman's farm complex built in 1916. The
rehabilitation included landscape and garden preservation and renovating the
farm into a restaurant and inn.
Renfrew Mill #2, Adams Corporate Park; Adams, Massachusetts
Project Preservation Planner for the historic assessment and Environmental
Impact Report on the significance of proposed development on a nineteenth
century brick mill complex. Responsibilities also included developing Design
Guidelines for the industrial office park and rehabilitation of the
Colrain Townscape Study; Colrain, Massachusetts
Project Manager for a village center character development and revitalization
plan that included a town common design, circulation improvements, and suggested
adaptive reuse of structures based on historic, architectural and land use
precedence. Informal workshops were utilized over a six-month period with
a broad cross section of the community. Public attendance and participation
shaped a fifteen-year plan and crystallized a shared community vision.
Northampton Downtown Historic District
Extension; Northampton, Massachusetts
Project Manager for research, building survey, documentation and accepted
extension of the existing Northampton Downtown Historic District. Inventory
and documentation met Massachusetts Historical Commission Standards.
CERTIFIED REHABILITATIONS OF HISTORIC
STRUCTURES
The projects below represent successful certified rehabilitations of historic
structures that followed the Department of Interior Standards for Certified
Historic Rehabilitations. As a result, all projects were awarded in investment
tax credit for the certified rehabilitation.
Responsibilities included building research,
façade design, and technical assistance to architects and contractors,
overseeing the design and development and completing the necessary state and
federal documents to complete the projects.

" The Value of Town Centers".
The 1992 fall article of Successful Catskill Communities published by the
Catskill Center for Conservation and Development, Inc. This article was written
by three Community Vision members. The article looked at how rural communities
can build on their assets and their uniqueness to re-evaluate and redefine
paths toward both revitalization and self-preservation. The article included
general design guidelines for revitalization.
Designing the Future to Honor the Past, Cape Cod Commission and Community Vision, 1992; A Design Guideline Manual for Sustainable Development on Cape Cod. Co-author of a design guideline manual for Cape Cod that is based on the historical and cultural patterns of land use and development. The project included reading the natural and cultural landscape, assessing and evaluating character defining features and applying these to future development. The guidelines are for both the public and private sector for use in the planning and development of new construction, infill, adaptive re-use projects and revitalization efforts. This project was done with the Center for Rural Massachusetts for the Cape Cod Commission. The project received the 1995 APA Outstanding Planning Award for Comprehensive Planning.
Franklin County Rural Historic Landscape
Preservation Plan, Franklin County Planning Department; Greenfield, Massachusetts
Author of a comprehensive planning document for the preservation of rural
historic landscapes in Franklin County. Twenty-two towns located in Franklin
County exhibit a rich cultural heritage based on agrarian and industrial land
use.
Identification, historic significance and designation parameters were developed
for four categories of working landscapes; these included, the agricultural,
recreational, transportation related and commerce and industrial landscapes.
Recommendations for action and a Preservation Plan were developed with the
participating communities.

1985.
This was a thorough study, assessment and documentation of seven early 19thcentury
brick apartment buildings that were slated for demolition as part of a large
redevelopment project in the southern part of Springfield.

Environmental
Impact Report: Springfield Redevelopment Authority, Springfield, Massachusetts.
1985 An Environmental Impact Report that addressed the impact of development
on the historic fabricand potential status of the area for National Historic
District Register listing. The intent of the 13 million-dollar project was
to stabilize Springfield’s south end neighborhood through housing, rehabilitation
of existing historic structures, reduction in densities and provision for
open space.
